From Mary Kress

To the RPC Planning Committee: Wednesday morning, when the calendar committee debriefed, we all regretted that our larger group did not have an opportunity to talk about the ideas that were put forward by our speakers. The calendar committee had a rich discussion — and we wish you all had been a part of it! So, we decided to invite you to comment in this virtual space.
To start, let me share some of the thoughts that were offered in our debrief:
When Kirsten & Jeremy talked about liking the structure that their church provides, we were reminded of the overwhelming array of options we all face, in media, in entertainment, in lifestyle choices, as consumers. In such a rich and confusing marketplace of ideas, structure can be very comforting and provide great security.
Likewise, in a society that may seem out of control, the need for practical advise on how to live life, how to manage a marriage, can be great.
We need to recognize that “church happens” in a mot of different ways and places, not just in a sactuary at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Church happens on a youth trip, in a gathering of young aduilts at a restaurant, and sometimes those who participate in THAT form of “church” are not participating in Sunday morning worship.
